HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Quarterback Billy Pine and running back Brad Burns were named state co-players of the year in Class C after leading the Panthers to their first state championship in school history, 34-21 over Hornell, a team that had come in winning 51 games in a row.
Burns rushed for 2,133 yards, scored 41 total touchdowns and 248 points -- second most in Section II history.
Pine was a double threat standing in the pistol formation -- he could throw, passing for more than 1,600 yards and 20 touchdowns or running with nearly 900 yards.
Three other Panthers were named to the all-state team. Receiver Randy Tutunjian, who caught 10 touchdowns earned a second-team nod on offense. Lance Rice-Wilder, the cataylst of the Panther defense was a second-team selection and Bryan Sherman was a third-team choice at defensive line.
Two Cambridge players were chosen in Class D. Tailback Matt Parmenter, who rushed for nearly 1,300 yards in eight games was named to the second-team offense and lineman Bryant Gibbons earned an honorable mention.
