Roundup: Patriots hosting poker tourneys

LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team is hosting fundraising poker tournaments on consecutive weekends.

The first event is on Friday night at the Bennington Elks Lodge. Registration is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for both tournaments. The second tournament is on Jan. 4 at the Eagles. Both have $40 buy-ins and a $25 re-buy.

Bennington Elks shoot

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Elks Lodge will host its annual Hoop Shoot on Jan. 6. The event will take place at Mount Anthony Union High School starting at 12:30 p.m.

The contest is for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 and a birth certificate is required at registration.

Wrestling bottle drive

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team will have its annual winter bottle drive on Jan. 6. If anyone would like to make arrangements for pick-up, call Jim Woodside at 802-442-5352 and leave a message.

Vt. Senior Games

The Vermont Senior Games Association will hold state weightlifting championships at the Shelburne Health and Fitness Club on Feb. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. Competition is open to anyone age 50 and older by Dec. 31, 2013. Events in age groups will be held in leg extension, leg press, seated chest press and standing biceps curl. Fee is $35. To register, visit www.vermontseniorgames.org and click on weightlifting.
