LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP
HANOVER, N.H. -- The Mount Anthony Union High School indoor track team notched a trio of new school records Saturday as the girls team finished second overall and the boys team third in an interstate meet at Dartmouth College.
Taking second in the 1,500 meters, senior Marc Brandmeyer's time of 4 minutes 15.75 seconds beat Josh Primmer's 19-year-old mark by nearly nine seconds. Brandmeyer also won the 1,000 to lead the MAU boys to 33 points on the day, third-best out of 15 teams.
The Patriot girls set two new relay records to finish with 42.5 points, good enough for runner-up in the 13-team field.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Raheemah Madany, Leniesha Williams, Taylor Hockemeier and Shelby McLenithan took first in 1:49.40, beating the previous mark -- which they set last week -- by 0.83 seconds.
They are 0.27 seconds shy of the state record.
The 4x400 relay mix of Grace Page, McKenzie Krawczyk, Sam Mears and Shelby Whitman shaved nearly three seconds off the existing record with their fifth-place time of 4:28.62.
McLenithan was also first in the 55 and 300. Firdous Madany was third in the shot put. Whitman was fourth in the 600, Williams fifth in the 55, Krawczyk fifth in the 1,000.
Mears claimed fifth in the high jump and the long jump.
Jon Polen won the boys 55-meter hurdles in 8.02 seconds and the boys 4x400 relay squad of Ben Seward, Brad Myers, Andy Seward and Andrew Brandmeyer also won.
BFA blanks BBA
ST. ALBANS -- BFA-St. Albans broke open a one-goal game with two tallies in the third period to edge Burr and Burton Academy, 3-0, in Metro Division girls hockey on Saturday.
Jade Remillard, Jen Deso and Danielle Shriner scored for BFA (1-0), which capitalized on a defensive breakdown in the final stanza to get double the lead on the Bulldogs (3-1).
Meg Chandler made 28 saves for BBA, which also got a strong game from sophomore forward Daisy Sullivan, coach Ed Lewicki said.
"Overall it's a good learning experience for our kids against one of the best Division I teams in the state year in, year out," Lewicki said.
