Indians bounce H.F. in opener

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School girls basketball team was out-scored 21-8 in the third quarter en route to a 65-50 defeat in the Panthers season opener.

Hoosick Falls led by one at the half against the Class B Indians, but the third quarter was the deciding factor.

Frankie Pearson led the Panthers with 16 points, including two 3-pointers. Rachel Pine added 10 and Taylor Hayes had eight.

Skylar Girard and Meresa Mason combined for 40 points, including seven 3-pointers as Glens Falls improves to 2-0 on the young season.

Hoosick Falls (0-1) travels to face defending Class C state champion Hoosic Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

SVC lends hand for Sandy victims

BENNINGTON -- On Saturday, donations will be accepted for victims of Superstorm Sandy at the Southern Vermont College men’s and women’s basketball games.

Winter clothing is preferred, but nonperishable food items and cleaning supplies will also be taken.

The charitable donations and collegiate basketball action go hand-in-hand, with the SVC men playing at 1 p.m. and the women at 3 p.m., both facing off against New England Collegiate Conference opponent Newbury College.
