VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. -- The Cambridge Central School wrestling team made a respectable 2-3 showing in their first meet of the season at the Blackbird Duals on Saturday.
They defeated host Voorheesville and Taconic Hills and lost to Monticello, Schoharie and Catskill.
Austin Dean led the Indians with a 3-1 record, scoring two falls, each in less than a minute. Senior Eric Telford was 2-1, getting two pins. He fell in overtime, 4-2, in the third match. Junior Chris Couture also went 2-1 with two falls.
Zach Martin and Matt Reedy also won two matches on the day. Cambridge wrestles next on Thursday against Granville in a league match.
Hoosac wins opener
NORTHFIELD, Mass. -- The Hoosac School Owls took advantage of three players scoring in double figures to start their season with a 56-54 victory over Redemption Christian Academy.
Unique McClain led the Owls with 21 points. Greg Bathwaite and Blair Manners added 10.
