Delurey, Hayden split top honors

HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Senior defender Alice Hayden and forward Grace Delurey led the area contingent on the Wasaren League girls soccer all-star team, splitting player of the year honors for the 2012 season.

The pair were joined on the first team by Panther freshman forward Jordyn Haynes, senior defender Liz Babson and goalkeeper Hannah Fricke.

Cambridge’s Jean Brownell earned second-team accolades along with Hoosick’s Mackenzie Hinchliffe, Allie Martin, Rachel Pine and Anna Restino. Emily Everard also earned honorable mention for Hoosick Falls, the 2012 Class C state champion.

Class D football stars

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Running back Matt Parmenter topped the Section II Class D honor roll this fall, with the Cambridge Central School senior being named the Most Valuable Player on the area all-star squad.

Parmenter became the third consecutive Indians running back to claim the honor, following Matt Best in 2010 and Skyler Saunders a year ago.

Cambridge lineman Bryant Gibbons was named to the first team offense and Nate Winchester earned a spot on the first-team defensive line. John Haskell, Kiel Kyer and Ethan English earned honorable mention for the Indians.

Panthers dominate field hockey all-star list

HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Hoosick Falls Central School landed four players on the All-Wasaren League first team for their exploits this fall.

Defender Vanessa O’Brien, goalkeeper Frankie Pearson, and midfielders Maddy Ryan and Carsen Williams landed on the first team for the Panthers. Greenwich also had four first-teamers.

Allyson Burdick, Erika Quackenbush, Katelyn Harrison and Liz Ryan received second-team recognition and Olivia Schneider garnered honorable mention.
