SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A cold shooting night and slow start doomed the Southern Vermont College men's basketball team on Tuesday night in a 76-43 loss on the road against Skidmore College.
The Mountaineers (0-3) fell behind, 36-21, by halftime, completing just 7-of-29 field goal attempts and finished the game shooting 24 percent from the floor.
Skidmore forward Connor Merrill, a Vergennes product, matched SVC's first half field goal output on his own, amassing 16 points by halftime en route to a 19-point, 11-rebound, six-block night.
Jermaine Campbell paced SVC with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Tarvaris Jenkins added 12 points and six boards.
Southern Vermont is off until Nov. 27 when it travels to Middlebury. The Mountaineers open their home slate on Dec. 4 against Elms College.
