Roundup: Panthers move to 3-0 after rout of Taconic Hills

LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP HOOSICK, N.Y. - Brad Burns and Billy Pine combined for five touchdowns on the ground as the Hoosick Falls Central School football team beat Taconic Hills, 47-8.

Burns carried 15 times for 154 yards and three scores while Pine added two. Brandon Hodges ran 12 times for 94 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers (3-0) led 47-0 in the fourth quarter.

Pine was also 6-of-9 throwing for 98 yards. Burns had two catches for 58 yards. Falls' defense came up big with four interceptions.

Anthony Chicazio's touchdown catch averted the shutout for the Titans.

HFCS rolls Horde HOOSICK, N.Y. - Six different players scored as the Hoosick Falls Central School girls soccer team kept their early-season roll going in a 10-0 win over Granville.

Grace Delurey led with a hat trick for the Panthers (3-0, 4-0), giving her six goals on the year. Jordan Haynes and Rachel Pine added two goals apiece, giving Haynes nine goals in four games. MacKenzie Hinchliffe, Dana O'Malley and Alyssa Houghton also tallied for Hoosick Falls.

Witches blank CCS GREENWICH, N.Y. -- Claire Albrecht scored twice and Kayla Goman provided the other score as the Witches earned the victory. Chantelle Roewer saved 10 shots for Cambridge. Madlyn Schafter stopped four for Greenwich.

Bulldogs drop to BF MANCHESTER - The Burr and Burton Academy field hockey team dropped their fourth in a row, 3-0, to Bellows Falls.

Cassie Bowen had 10 saves for the Bulldogs, who had good performances from Lisa Klarides, Jen Dorr and Erin Cournyer, who returned from injury.

Storm game venue change BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm game against the Southern New Hampshire Beavers on Saturday night at 7 p.m. will be played at Tamarac High School in Troy, N.Y. It is considered a make-up from a game on August 4 scheduled for Applejack Field in Manchester. Tickets for the game are $5.

Soccer shoot BENNINGTON - The Bennington Elks Club is hosting the 2012 Soccer Shoot on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Lower Willow Park.

Registration begins on Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. and participants must have a copy of their birth certificate. There will be four divisions: U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14. All participants get a T-shirt and winners will get trophies and have the opportunity to compete at the state tournament.

MAU youth soccer nights BENNINGTON - The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is once again sponsoring a pair of Youth Soccer Nights for the girls and boys area youth league soccer players.

Boys Youth Night will be Sept. 18 when the MAU boys soccer team plays host to Springfield at 6 p.m. Girls Youth Night will be Sept. 26 when the Patriot girls soccer team hosts Hartford at 6 p.m.

All boys and girls playing in the area youth soccer leagues will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys on these respective nights.

Parents are asked to please accompany their children at the game or arrange supervision by a coach or another parent.

At the halftime of each night, there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring area youth soccer players.

A drawing for a free soccer ball signed by the varsity Patriots will be held after the exhibition game for the youth players in attendance.

SVC 5K challenge BENNINGTON - Join Southern Vermont College on Sept. 22 for the 2nd Annual SVC 5K Challenge Citizen's Fun Run. Here's your chance to run, walk or crawl around the same course the collegiate runners use.

Whether you want to run hard or just get some exercise with friends on Homecoming Weekend, this event is for you.

The normal entry fee is $25, but SVC students, faculty, and staff can enter for $10. All participants will get a T-shirt and there will be prizes for the winners of the men's and women's categories. Proceeds will go to support the SVC men's and women's cross country teams.

The citizen's race/run starts at 10 a.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on the Mansion lawn. You can also pre-register by dropping off or mailing your entry form to Coach Maria Stuber (Southern Vermont College-Athletics, 982 Mansion Dr, Bennington, VT 05201). Stay after you're done and cheer on your college XC team. The women will run the same 5K course at 11 a.m. and the men will run an 8K at 12 p.m.

3D Archery BENNINGTON - The season's final 3D Archery Hunter shoot will take place on Sunday at the Catamount Bowhunters club on Fuller Road.

Registration is from 8 to 11 a.m. and members and non-members are welcome. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 12-15 years old. Cubs (under 11) are free with an adult.

5th Annual Batten Kill River Duck Run ARLINGTON - The fall racing season is upon us and what better way to kick it off than with the fifth Annual BattenKill River Duck Run on Sept. 23 in West Arlington. The BattenKill River Duck Run benefits Arlington Area Childcare/Happy Days Playschool. The festivities start with a 1K fun run for the kids at 8:30, followed by a 5k run/walk and a 12K run/walk at 9:00 am.

The races take place on River Road in West Arlington beginning and ending at the Grange. The entire route is run on a low traffic dirt road along the BattenKill River and offers some spectacular scenery as fall foliage approaches its peak. Some say this is the best time of year for Vermont running.

Registration the morning of the Duck Run on Sept. 23 begins at 7:30 a.m. and is $18 for the 5K and 12K and $3 for the fun run, free for Happy Days' students. Early registration before Sept. 14 is $15. Age group awards will be given for the top 3 in each age group from 12 and under to 80 and over.

Each participant in the kids 1K fun run will receive an award. Volunteers are also needed to help with registration and other race day tasks, so ontact Happy Days at 802-375-6039 to find out how you can be a part of this community event or for more information about how to register for the event.

Do you swim? The Marauders want you BENNINGTON - Interested in becoming a Bennington Marauders swimmer? Please come to our Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Bennington Recreation Center.

Benn Youth Bowling BENNINGTON - Registration for Bennington Youth Bowling will take place at Bennington Lanes today from 9:30 to noon.

All Bennington-area youth from 6 to 19 are invited to join the league, which begins Sept. 22. Registration fee is $15 and people must pre-register to participate.
