LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP

BENNINGTON -- There will be a boys lacrosse camp from July 16th to July 19th at Willow Park. Boys ages 5 to 8 attend for a half day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., while boys ages 9 to 15 attend for a full day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Equipment is available if needed.

Junior golf camp

BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Country Club head pro Doug Ruttle will hold instructional camps for junior golfers between ages 8 and 16 this summer.

One session takes place from July 16 to 19; the other is set for Aug. 14 to 17. A session costs $99 per junior golfer, payable to Douglas A. Ruttle, PGA. Sign-up forms are available at the golf course.

Free soccer camp

BENNINGTON -- Grace Christian School will host a free soccer camp from July 9 to 12 for boys and girls ages 6 to 12. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. each day. To register, call 447-2233.

Lady Patriot Basketball School in July

BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony Union High School will host the annual Lady Patriot Basketball School from July 9-13. There will be two sessions: a morning camp for players 8-12 and an afternoon camp for those 13-and-up.

The cost to sign up is $100 per child or $90 each if two or more attend. For more information, contact MAU girls basketball coach Courtney Reif at 802-345-4151.

Beanbag charity tournament

BENNINGTON -- The Purple Pride of Vermont will host a cornhole tournament at Ramuntos on Main Street in Bennington to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project and the local Veterans Outreach Center.

The tournament will be on July 14 and cost $25 to register. The money is used for registration, two drinks, a goodie bag and chances to win prizes.

Check in is at noon and the tournament begins at 1 p.m.

Summer tennis camps

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Tennis Center is hosting summer youth camps for kids ages 8 to 18. There will be five different sessions -- July 17-20, July 24-27, July 31-Aug. 3, Aug. 7-10 and Aug. 14-17.

The camps, led by pros Seth Gabriel and Dan Rowe, run from Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kids will participate in various warm up activities followed by drills, games and other tennis-related activities.

The cost for the camp is $120, which includes a T-shirt. To sign up, call 802-447-7557.

Arlington Soccer Camp takes place in July

ARLINGTON -- The Arlington Soccer Camp enters its 35th year this summer, resuming for Arlington area youth players from July 23 to 27. For children entering first grade through seventh grade, the camp goes from 9 a.m. to noon each day at the Fisher school fields.

The cost is $90 per child ($60 per each additional sibling). The camp, directed by Castleton State College men’s soccer coach John Werner, teaches skills and tactics through fun games with emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

Storm hosting youth football camp

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm is hosting a youth football camp from August 6-9.

The camp, for kids 8 to 12 years old, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the the Vermont Veterans Home on North Street.

Former Mount Anthony Union High School football coach and Storm player Jim Fischer will work with the kids to teach the fundamentals and techniques of football. It will also provide instruction on all aspects of the game such as running, throwing, catching, blocking, tackling and speed drills.

Current Storm and MAU players will also be at the camp. The cost is $60. Shoulder pads and helmets will be supplied, so players are asked to bring cleats, mouth guard, shorts and football pants.

Bennington Basketball School next month

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball team is hosting its 41st annual summer camp.

The camp will take place from July 16-20 at the Mount Anthony high school gym.

There are two sessions: one in the morning for kids ages 12-15 from 8 a.m. to noon and one in the afternoon for 7 to 11 year olds from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The camp costs $110 per camper and includes a t-shirt and a ball.

Blue Lollipop Road

SHAFTSBURY -- The Blue Lollipop Road Reunion Soccer Weekend will take place on August 17 and 18 at Howard Park in Shaftsbury.

After a welcome party on the 17th at Madison’s, a Strong Mojo Summit and a memorial scholarship will be awarded.

The scholarship is in memory of former Mount Anthony Union High School soccer players Maria Greene and Brandy Brown, killed in a car accident in 1994.

At 1 p.m., there will be an alumni soccer game at Howard Park for any alumni who want to play.
