SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Southern Vermont College men’s basketball team fell in non-conference action to the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds, 110-58, on Tuesday night at the Sports and Recreation Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Derrick Cenicola led SVC with 17 points - his third straight 17-point game - going 5 of 8 from the field. Lance Spratling and Joe Karnik had 12 and 13 points, respectively, for the Mountaineers as they fell to 2-3 overall.

Skidmore senior forward Jon Douglas and sophomore guard Melvis Langyintuo scored 18 points each, as the Thoroughbreds remain unbeaten at 4-0.

Southern Vermont scored the game’s first eight points and led 18-7 with 13:40 to play in the first half. But the Thoroughbreds erupted for a 29-5 run to take a 36-23 lead with 7:12 to play and then a 22-6 run to close out the half with a 58-29 lead.

Skidmore’s bench outscored SVC’s, 62-6. The Thoroughbreds also scored 41 points off 31 Mountaineer turnovers.

SVC is back in action on Dec. 1, when it heads to Union College for more non-conference play.

SVC was paced by sophomore Alyssa Davis who had a team-high nine points to go along with five rebounds. Junior Kiara Bates played well inside, contributing a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks in the loss.

The score remained close during the games opening eight minutes, with Anna Maria holding a 10-8 advantage. The Amcats then pulled away with a 16-2 run, getting five points from McCarthy while building a 26-10 lead.

The Mountaineers answered right back as sophomore Kristen Cummings scored five unanswered points on a layup and a three-pointer to get SVC back within 11.

The Amcats withstood the rush and went into the locker room holding a 33-19 lead.Although both teams turned the ball over 10 times each, the Amcats held a 16-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

After the Mountaineers scored on the opening possession of the second half, the Amcats responded with a 15-2 run.

The Mountaineers held AMC scoreless for the final 4:30 of play, closing the game on an 8-0 run. It proved to be too-little-too-late as time ran out and the Amcats held on for the 63-38 victory.

Southern Vermont will return to the court on Monday, when it hosts Smith at 7 p.m.
