'Fight for the Powerless' at the Federated Church
EAST ARLINGTON >> The "Be the Church" Series for the summer continues at the 10:00 a.m. Service of Worship on August 14 at the Federated Church of East Arlington on Ice Pond Road. This week's service and message from the Rev. Kathy Clark is devoted to the theme "Fight for the Powerless." Musical accompaniment and choir direction will be provided by Mary Edwards. The Service will be followed by a time of fellowship and refreshment in Bailey Hall.
Tickets are now available for the Chicken Barbecue to be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 12 to 2 pm outside at the Federated Church of East Arlington. This fundraiser to benefit the Arlington Food Shelf will have barbecued chicken, coleslaw, corn on the cob, cookies and beverages on the menu with takeouts available. Tickets are $12 per person or $11 in advance. Phone the Church office at 375-2548 for tickets or additional information.

Worship, events at St. Peter's
BENNINGTON >> On the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, Aug. 14, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Justin Lanier will preside at Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. using the Book of Common Prayer, Rite I. At the 10 a.m. service, usng Rite II, there will be music by our Organist and Choirmaster, John Riddle. The gospel for this Sunday is Luke 12: 49-56. A healing service follows both the 8 a.m. and the 10 a.m. Eucharist.
Nancy Sanford will be in the office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each week. Father Justin will be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be Evening Prayer at 5 p.m. and Contemplative Prayer from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
On Thursday, August 18, the Holy Eucharist will be offered starting at 10 a.m. in the Lady Chapel.

Early reminder: St. Peter's Chicken Pie Supper will be held Saturday, Oct. 1. Chicken with gravy and biscuits, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, cabbage and apple salad, cranberry and orange relish, plus apple crisp with fresh whipped cream for dessert. There will be two sittings, at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. We need volunteers to make chicken pies, apple crisp, wait staff, vegetable prep and set-up help the Friday before, and clean-up help for Saturday night. Donations to offset the cost of the vegetables are appreciated. Reservations may be made by calling 802-442-2911. The Fundraising Committee needs your advice as to whether to commit to a carnival/fair. This would be a big commitment so we do need your help in this, both in the decision-making and for the carnival itself. Call Holly Schmitz at 753-7279 or Nancy Sanford at 802-753-7380 before September 2016.
The freezer would like some food for those in need. Please drop any food items off at the church from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Annual Peach Shortcake Supper
POWNAL >> The Pownal United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Route 346 and Church Street, will be serving its annual Peach Shortcake Supper on Thursday, Aug. 18. The family style dinner begins at 5 p.m. with continuous serving. The menu includes: grilled chicken breast and thighs, baked ham, pineapple sauce, baked beans, potato and Jello salads, sliced tomatoes, rolls, coffee, iced tea, or lemonade, and homemade peach shortcake.
