Perhaps if Weiland Ross is interested in wasteful spending, he will want to consider the inefficiencies of the local supervisory unions -- triple-tiered bureaucracies who make claims to economy while hiring staff for positions no one has requested, developing obscure funding and cost allocation procedures that make it impossible to examine whether the overhead charged by the supervisory unions is fairly allocated to the member districts, and imposing the tyranny of the majority on the smaller districts who have little voice on a board dominated by the larger districts. The supervisory unions are the entities who will have more power with consolidation.
And as to educational quality: if bigger is better, why are people willing to pay more to send their children to small private schools, or even to school at home? Economical, effective big schools are as much a figment of the bureaucratic imagination as economical, effective big military programs.
No research I know of has shown any definitive economic or educational advantage for the children in schools of any particular size. What happens in the classroom is what counts.
One-sided editorial selections
The Bennington Banner should be ashamed of its editorial selections. For quite some time now the Banner has printed editorials that only represent on side of the political world. Almost every article they print is pro the Democrat party. This itself should be considered irresponsible, but worse still is the hatred being printed line after line, and ridicule spit out against any other opinion. The media should not be representing only one side of the political world. This incites more hate and intolerance.
Bennington Prices at Dollar General may not be a bargain
Neighbors beware the prices at Dollar General may not be the bargain you think! I usually pay $8.99 for a 16 lb. bag of dog food at Hannaford. I'd run out, and stopped at Dollar General in Pownal. I was thrilled to purchase what I thought was the same product for 50 cents less. I was quite shocked when I got home to find the identical looking bag was actually 2 lbs. less! No deal at all!
