BENNINGTON - Police arrested a juvenile they say committed armed robbery at a gas station Saturday night.
According to Bennington Police, at 2:25 a.m. officers responded to Short Stop, a Shell gas station at 110 Northside Drive, where it was reported that a white male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and glasses had entered and placed a number of items on the counter to buy. When asked for identification by the clerk, the male said he could not find his identification or his money and left. He soon returned, saying he found his money, and the clerk rang up the items. Instead of money, the male pulled a gun, pointed it at the clerk, and demanded money from the register.
A customer then pulled up to the gas station pumps, interrupting the robbery, and the male fled.
Police found an article of clothing worn by the male, and with the help of a Vermont State Police dog, tracked him to the Willowbrook Apartment Complex nearby. Police went door to door and learned from residents that a gun had recently been stolen from one of the apartments. Through investigating the burglary, police identified the male accused of robbing the gas station.
Police said the male confessed to stealing the gun and robbing the station. Because of his age, which was not provided, his identity is not being released. He is being charged in Family Court and was scheduled to appear there today.
