The Vermont Secretary of State has announced the start of absentee voting for the primary election.

Registered voters may request a ballot from town clerks in person, by phone or by mail.

The primary election is Aug. 26. Absentee ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. or the close of the town clerk's office on Aug. 25.

Jim Condos, the Secretary of State, urges Vermonters to vote in advance of the election.

"Early voting is a great way to make sure that you have an opportunity to vote. Vermonters are busy people and getting to the polls on Election Day doesn't fit everyone's schedule - early voting is a chance to guarantee you make your voice heard," Condos said.

The deadline for voter registration is 5 p.m., Wednesday Aug. 20.

For an online absentee ballot request form, or for more information about early voting, go to the Secretary of State's office website.
