MORETOWN (AP) - Vermont has awarded a total of $1.1 million to 37 agricultural and forestry projects around the state.
The grants announced Tuesday are the second round of the Working Lands grants started last year.
Among the recipients is Grow Compost of Vermont, which is receiving $75,000 for new equipment to collect food scraps and manure to turn into compost at its Moretown site.
Other recipients include Green Mountain Hardwood in Ripton for a portable sawmill and materials for a solar-assisted lumber kiln.
Grants were also awarded to service providers including $50,000 to the Vermont Wood Manufacturers Association and $50,000 to a project by the Inrtervale Center, Northeast Organic Farmers Association of Vermont, the University of Vermont and others to nurture the next wave of Vernont agricultural entrepreneurs.
