The Vermont Attorney General's Office is seeking comment from businesses and consumers on the establishment of rules to govern the state's new GMO labeling law.

The Legislature last session approved a bill requiring food manufacturers to label any product sold in the state that contains genetically modified ingredients. The law takes effect July 1, 2016.

Attorney General Bill Sorrell has established an online questionnaire to accept input from "food processors, grocers and other retailers, distributors, the agricultural community and consumers," according to a news release. The questionnaire will be open until June 30.

The AG will use the feedback in preparing a draft rule governing GMO labeling this year. Public comments will also be sought on the draft, the release said.
