MONTPELIER (AP) - Public safety officials in Montpelier, Vt., have been working with a contractor to break up an ice jam in the Winooski River.

Vermont is dealing with melting ice and snow due to rising temperatures after a heavy arctic blast kept the state near or below zero.

Fire officials told the Burlington Free Press the ice jam on the Winooski River led to some backups.

Flooding had closed several roads in Essex and Richmond.

Some businesses reported flooding.
