Family Day at the Clark Institute

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- In the spirit of the major construction activity under way at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute as it enters the final phase of its expansion project, the Institute will hold a free construction-themed Family Day on Sunday, October 27 from 12-4 p.m.

Children of all ages will delight in the activities planned for the day, including:

"Great Big Cardboard Building Challenge," in which kids of all ages can create large-scale buildings using sturdy cardboard A Tonka Truck play area, complete with all kinds of toy construction vehicles and large piles of wood chips, gravel, and dirt to spark building and excavation ideas.

Smaller-scale cardboard building projects in Hunter Studio at Stone Hill Center Sketching gallery artwork on cardboard at Stone Hill Center A playful cardboard rendition of a famous painting, created by local artist Andrew Davis Trail walks up Stone Hill, culminating in hayrides, jack-o’-lantern carving, free cider, and enjoying a bird’s-eye view of the expansion project Food will be available for purchase from local vendor Amanda’s on Wheels.

"We’re so excited to connect art and building for Family Day," said Ronna Tulgan Ostheimer, head of education programs at the Clark. "This gives us a chance not only to highlight our expansion project in a fun way, but also to think about art from a different angle." Visitors are encouraged to park in the event parking area (which will be clearly marked) and take a shuttle to Stone Hill Center.

New England Rhythm Fest

BRATTLEBORO -- Get your groove on at Headroom Stages in Brattleboro on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 for the first New England Rhythm Fest! On Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. you can sample a new style of dance: tap, Zumba, belly dance, breaking, African dance, and from 8 to 9 p.m. you can jam with our musicians and instructors. On Saturday, take classes with local artists and performers from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., then come see our performance at 7:30 p.m.! This event is aimed at everyone! Whether you have years of experience or have never set foot in a dance class before, you’re welcome! We want to see New England dancing! Fiddlehead hosting lineup of fall art classes (Sept. 30- Nov. 22)

BENNINGTON -- For the third time the Fiddlehead gallery at Four Corners will be running a program of fall art classes for children and young adults, which will run from late September through November.

With various offerings for children between 4 and 17 years old, the after-school and weekend classes will be taught by a group of experienced local teachers and professionals.

Class topics include ceramics and pottery, cupcake decorating, printmaking, Lego architecture, painting and smartphone photography.
