Plein Air to offer outdoor painting workshop
NORTH BENNINGTON -- In this two-day workshop, we'll carry on that tradition and focus on the unique experience of painting "en plein air," a French phrase meaning simply, "in open air" or outdoors.
We'll begin by learning to use our sketchbooks to record the impression of the landscape and to quickly capture changing light effects since the changes in the intensity and quality of light during the course of a summer or autumn afternoon can be very dramatic. From there we'll move on to more ambitious paintings of the plein air landscape. We'll focus on the skills and techniques needed to and to make plein air paintings successful in varied conditions.
The workshop is appropriate for all skill levels but a bit of prior watercolor experience will be helpful. The workshop instructor is Tony Conner, a Signature Member of the New England Watercolor Society, his energetic approach to teaching and enthusiasm for the watercolor medium are combined to create workshops that are both fun and informative.
The workshop meets on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 & 29, 2013, at the Taraden Bed & Breakfast, 183 Park Street, North Bennington, VT.
Fee for the weekend long workshop is $185. For more information check the website www.tonyconner.com/classes-workshops.
Southern Vermont Art Center announces pastel landscape workshop with Robert Carsten
MANCHESTER -- Whether by moonlight, starlight or streetlight, landscapes, towns, villages and/or cities at night provide fun and intriguing opportunities as subjects taking on poetic and dramatic character and adding interest, color and action to our pastels, while autumnal landscapes provide atmospherically charged color and dynamic, visual qualities.
Pastel techniques appropriate to capturing the mood and energetic excitement of these subjects will be presented and demonstrated by the instructor. Work from your photos or sketches. Demonstration, a fun and educational atmosphere, and lots of painting time. All levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome.
The workshop takes place today and tomorrow at the Southern Vermont Art Center from 9:30 to 4:30 p.m. and costs $165 for members and $190 for non-members.
