ARLINGTON -- A restored Model T Ford and a Cadillac were some of the vehicles lost in a garage fire Monday night on Red Mountain Road, according to the Arlington Fire Department.
Firefighters said lightning strikes had been reported in the area just before they were summoned to 826 Red Mountain Road, where heavy smoke was seen.
Upon arrival at 5:06 p.m., the Arlington Fire Department found a garage completely engulfed in flames. Two fire trucks from Manchester Fire Department arrived to assist while the Shaftsbury Fire Department covered the Arlington station. According to Arlington Fire Chief Jamie Paustian, fire crews began to cool an attached carriage barn to keep it from catching fire, then turned their attention to the garage. A nearby pond was used as a water source and the fire was under control within 30 minutes; however, fire crews remained on scene for another hour and a half to completely extinguish the fire. An excavator was used to move debris so firefighters could extinguish hot spots.
Paustian wrote in an email that the garage was a complete loss and the carriage house it was attached to received some damage as well. Firefighters were finished with their work by 7:40 p.m.
According to the Town Clerk, the home is owned by David Holtzman.
