DORSET - State Police seized 1,190 "bindles" of heroin weighing a total of 37.96 grams and a .380 caliber handgun, after stopping a Kings County, N.Y., man for a traffic violation on Route 7 Thursday.

The driver, Cuwan I. Merritt, 24, is also accused of providing police with a false name. Police said Merritt has active arrest warrants out of New York.

Merritt is facing five felony charges and one misdemeanor resulting from the traffic stop. He is expected to be arraigned in Rutland today.

Merritt was held at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland for lack of $500,000 bail.
