BRATTLEBORO -- A Brattleboro Union High School student died from injuries sustained in a car crash on Upper Dummerston Road Tuesday evening.
According to the notice, James K. Evans Jr., 17, of Dummerston, died Tuesday night at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He had been transported there by emergency helicopter following the crash.
At approximately 7 p.m., the BPD was called to the vicinity of the Brattleboro Country Club after receiving a report of single-vehicle accident. Police determined that there was a second person in the vehicle, but that person hasn’t yet been named. The investigation is ongoing.
BUHS Principal Steve Perrin said the school was rocked by the news and faculty, counselors and staff spent the day consoling students and helping them grieve.
"Jim was very popular," said Perrin. "He was an important part of the school."
Evans, a junior, made strong connections with his fellow students, and didn’t let grade levels or cliques stand in his way of friendships, said Perrin.
"He would walk into a room and had a warm smile for everybody ... an impish grin," he said.
