CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- A sheriff's deputy was in the right place at the right time over the weekend when he came across an elderly woman laying unconscious in the snow.
In a written release from theWashington County Sheriff's Office, authorities reported that sheriff's Deputy James Banish was on routine patrol in the village of Cambridge on Saturday, Jan. 5, at about 11:55 a.m. when he noticed what police said appeared to be legs in a snow bank of a driveway on North Park Street.
The unidentified 83-year-old woman was unconscious and unresponsive and dressed only in a robe, police said. Banish called for an ambulance and then ran inside the home to get a blanket for the woman, who police said was transported by the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. She was later moved to Albany Medical Center.
In their release, the sheriff's office said it was unknown how long the woman had been down outside the home but added the alert actions of Banish greatly contributed to the local woman's chances of survival.
