SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. - Two Berkshire Farm Center runaways sought by State Police over the weekend were taken into custody late Sunday. Xavier Rowse, of Greenwich, and Austin Parent, of Northumberland, both 16, ran away from the Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth in Caanan late Friday, according to police. They allegedly stole a 2005 Nissan X-terra from a parking lot in Canaan.

They were found and arrested after a foot pursuit in Schuylerville near Ferry Road at approximately 4:30 p.m., police said. State Police from the Greenwich barracks initially reported the runaways after it was believed they had returned to the town of Cambridge, where both previously lived. Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell said the vehicle was observed by village police at approximately 12:48 a.m. Saturday on Eddy Street in the village of Greenwich. Bell said police attempted to pull over the vehicle for having no license plate light and an obstructed rear view mirror, but the vehicle fled. After a brief pursuit police lost the vehicle on county Route 60.

Police later located that vehicle at a previous residence of Rowse's, in the town of Cambridge on county Route 60, at approximately 1:30 a.m. A state police team surrounded the residence because of a concern there were guns in the home, but the teens were not found inside. Instead, police said the two walked to the village of Greenwich and then traveled to Schuylerville, were one had lived in the past. Rowse and Parent were both charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, concerning theft of the vehicle. Rowse was additionally charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor. Parent was additionally charged with second-degree criminal sale of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly providing marijuana to a 12-year-old on Saturday.

Both were arraigned in Cambridge Town Court and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of $50,000 cash bail. The Berkshire Farm Center is a child welfare agency providing group homes, detention homes, counseling, and foster care programs. Police said the youths had run away from another related center in Argyle repeatedly over the course of the past year.

State Police reported that they were aided in the search by the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department and the Washington and Saratoga County Sheriff's departments.
