BENNINGTON -- Emergency workers had a busy Monday after an afternoon snowstorm sent cars off the road and made tractor trailers unable to navigate Route 9 and Route 8.

According to Vermont State Trooper Robert Zink, state police were dispatched to five crashes spread through Pownal, Searsburg, and Shaftsbury. They reported that six cars went off the road and had to be freed.

The only injury state police dealt with was from a crash on Route 7 in Pownal, where the driver had a seizure and drove off the road into a swamp. The person was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

Several tractors on Route 9 and Route 8 in Searsburg had to be towed using large wreckers.

Scanner reports also indicated a crash in Bennington near Orchard Road.
