MANCHESTER — The Planning Commission has scheduled two public meetings concerning alternative zoning scenarios in town.
The public is invited to provide input on land use and development following a project kick-off in April and the public 'walk-and-talks' that were held in May. The conversation for the "Moving Forward" meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Kilburn Meeting Room at the Town Hall on Sept. 12.
Consultant Brandy Saxton of PlaceSense in Windsor was hired to help revise the current zoning ordinances. During the walking tours in May, talk revolved around parking accessibility, uses for vacant or existing property, and incorporating residential housing into commercial areas.
"It has become obvious that there is no way to cover all of this in one meeting," she said. "Janet and I have talked and we think the best thing to do would to be to do one set of the districts on Sept. 12 and another set on the 26th."
Monday's meeting will cover the town's core districts including commercial and industrial, Saxton said, and the latter will focus on residential and rural districts.
In that manner, I think we can actually get through [it all]," she added. "It will give people the opportunity to provide feedback on the direction things are headed."
At the beginning of the first meeting, Saxton will introduce the project, review past meetings and spend 15 minutes on each district. She'll also ask what the goals should be for certain districts and where boundaries should be established. After each district there will be time for questions and the meeting will last two hours.
The plan is to have a revised ordinance with a check-in meeting by February 2017 and a redefined draft to be ready in May 2017.
The Sept. 26 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the same room at the Town Hall, 6039 Main St. in Manchester.
