Jerry Albert, club service director for the Bennington Rotary Club, in front of the town office on Friday as he readies the Chapel Bell for it's public unveiling. The bell was at the Vermont Veterans' Home chapel for years and was refurbished under the club's Bennington Bell Initiative. The cast iron bell has a new powder coating and permanent mount. The bell will be unveiled at the local observation of the National Let Freedom Ring Bell Ringing Ceremony, on Monday, July 4 at 1:45 p.m. in front of the town office on South Street. At exactly 2:00 p.m., thirteen club members will each ring the bell from the USS Bennington in recognition of each of the original thirteen colonies. Several local churches will also ring their bells during the ceremony. In recognition of being named the The Mission Lifeline: 2016 Silver Certificate Recipient by the American Heart Association, a member of the Bennington Rescue Squad will ring the bell for the 14th time to honor Vermont, before reading the Declaration of Independence.
