BENNINGTON >> Police say they solved a string of break-ins early Wednesday morning just hours after they happened.
According to Bennington Police, at 3:41 a.m. officers responded to Martin's Mobil at 301 Main St. for a reported broken window. Someone had broken in and stolen several items, including scratch lottery tickets. Police were able to capture images of the suspect taken by the store's surveillance system .
While they were doing this, they received a call about a broken window at A Kind Place, located at 106 North St. They learned that place, too, had been burgled. Police located Ashton Lanfair, 21, walking on Depot Street wearing clothing similar to what police had seen in the Martin's video. Lanfair was also covered in glass shards and had a cut requiring medical attention. Furthemore, he was in possession of items reported stolen from A Kind Place.
Lanfair had attempted to cash the lottery tickets at a local convenience store, but threw them in the trash when unable to do so. Police recovered the tickets and found them to be the same ones taken from Martin's.
Police also learned Moulton's Spectacle Shoppe had been broken into.
According to the Bennington County State's Attorney's Office, Lanfair will be arraigned on Friday and is currently being held on a furlough revocation. He was on probation at the time of these alleged offenses.
