ARLINGTON — Arlington Memorial High School Principal Tim Stewart has announced this year's valedictorian and salutatorian, both of whom will give speeches when they and their classmates graduate this Saturday.

Brandon Gamble is the valedictorian of the Class of 2016, meaning he held the highest grade point average in his graduating class over his four years at school. Salutatorian Colin Lawler had the second highest cumulative average.

Gamble was elected vice-president of his class after serving for two years as treasurer. He performs with the AMHS Varsity Theatre Players, the AMHS Concert Band, and the AMHS Jazz Band. He also plays on the varsity soccer, basketball, and golf teams and has volunteered with Arlington youth soccer and basketball programs. He is a member of National Honors Society and Student Council. In October, it was announced that Gamble had been named as a recipient of the prestigious Green and Gold Scholarship, which is given by the University of Vermont and is worth $15,000 annually, provided Gamble attends UVM full-time and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

"Brandon's strong academic preparation will serve him well in college and any career he chooses. He is a bright young man with a tireless work ethic who is very deserving of this honor," Stewart said of Gamble, who is planning to pursue electrical engineering in college.

Lawler is also a member of National Honors Society and Students Council. He was elected this year to serve as class secretary. He is co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and he received soccer All State and All League honors from the Marble Valley League for his stellar performance on the field. He is also a member of the school's golf and snowboarding teams. Lawler will attend the University of Georgia starting in the fall, studying political science.

The AMHS graduation ceremony will take place this Saturday, June 4, at noon. For more information, contact Stewart at stewartt@bvsu.org or 802-375-2589, extension 109.
