BENNINGTON — Registration is now open for United Counseling Service (UCS) seventh annual 'Go the Distance' 5k race.
The race, organized by UCS and the Batten Kill Valley Runners will take place on June 18 at 9 a.m. at 316 Dewey St. Proceeds will benefit the Peer Support Program at UCS. A kid's fun run and family fun day will follow the 5k race.
Last year, 117 runners participated and raised about $1,500, according to a release.
Register online at www.active.com by June 15 for $15. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. for $20. All runners will receive a participation gift as well as ribbons for top winners in their age category.
Zumba instructor Andrea Malinowski will offer a pre-race warm up.
"Last year it was just the most fun anybody ever had," Victor Marini, UCS community rehabilitation and emergency services director said. "It's just a fun day for everyone."
The family fun day will include free popcorn, ice cream, face painting and tie-dye. The kid's fun run measures about 1.2 miles long.
The age groups for the 5k is as follows: under age 10, 10 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, 80 to 89, and 90 and above.
UCS' Peer Services contain a variety of groups. One is trained and sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-VT), another regards depression and bipolar, and the last is sponsored by the Vermont Psychiatric Survivors, according to Marini.
