BENNINGTON — The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bennington County will host the 29th annual Bowl for Kids' Sake on April 2 at Bennington Lanes to raise money for the mentoring program.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is run through United Counseling Service (UCS) to pair children who need guidance, with an adult mentor to provide one-to-one support and establish self-confidence. The program helps children ages five to 14.
Bowl for Kids' Sake is sponsored by The Bank of Bennington, as it has in the past. Annick Billert Assistant Vice President of the Main Office & Phyllis Lane Manager, said bank staff members have been mentors in the program before and that "they've found it so fulfilling to be able to take part."
The bowl-a-thon raised between $35,000 and $40,000 last year. UCS Director of Community Relations & Development Michael Veitch said there was great support from local businesses and sponsors. Teams even raised $41,000 and saw over 500 people come out to the event.
"Without funding through the support of community members and partners," he said, "Big Brothers Big Sisters would be unable to continue."
There's a major push for teams to sign up right now, Veitch added, because participating is the key to funding.
"The bank is very community oriented and likes to give back to the community," Billert said. "It's a good opportunity for the bank, and it's a good cause for the kids who benefit from the fundraising efforts."
The bank will have 10 to 20 bowlers take part in the event across two to four lanes including staff members and their family members.
"It's a great event to go to and everyone has a lot of fun," Billert said. "For the brief hour commitment you have, you get so much out of it."
To register, visit www.crowdrise.com/bfksvt. Starting at 10:30 a.m., there will be seven wave times that last an hour and a half each. Top individual fundraisers are eligible to win a Fitbit Charge HR and other prizes, and for ever $100 raised, participants will be entered to win a 40 inch Samsung Smart TV.
Bennington Lanes is located at 219 Northside Drive and those who need more information about forming a team or sponsoring the event can contact Veitch at 802-442-5491 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
