POWNAL — Voters on Tuesday re-elected two incumbents and a former member to the Selectboard.

Incumbent Jason Olansky received 501 votes for the single open one-year term. Challenger John Bushee, Jr. received 261 votes.

Three candidates sought two three-year terms. Former member Ronald Bisson, who did not seek re-election last year, took the lead with 522 votes. Bisson will be joined on the board by incumbent Henry Strohmaier, who followed with 490 votes. Both candidates bested candidate Brandon Jacobson, who received 301 votes.

Richard Ryder, who served as Selectboard chairman during his one-year term, did not run for re-election.

In the Democratic primary, town voters cast 469 ballots for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and 105 for former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Voters in the Republican primary cast 158 votes for Donald J. Trump. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (Florida) received 49 votes; Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich, 46; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), 35.

Of the town's 2,350 registered voters, 883 cast ballots in the "Super Tuesday" presidential primary and local election, for a turnout of 37 percent.

The two Selectboard seats were the only contested positions in this year's town election, the results of which were reported to the Banner on Thursday morning.

In uncontested races, Bonnie Cutler was elected lister and Christian Dickenson, auditor.

Tammy Sohl was elected school director for three years; and Angie Rawling and Todd Steinhoff, school director for one year.

In Tuesday's Australian ballot, voters also approved all ballot questions.

Voters appropriated $889,720 for the town's general expenses in fiscal 2017, a 7.2 percent increase from the current year's $829,920.

The $737,250 voters appropriated for the town's highways is a 4.3 percent decrease over the current year's $770,600.

Voters also approved all $232,840 requested by ballot articles, including: Pownal Fire Protective Association, Inc. ($60,000), Pownal Valley Fire Department ($52,000), Pownal Rescue Squad ($50,000), the Solomon Wright Library ($15,000), Pownal Valley Fair Association Community Fireworks ($2,500), and Pownal Youth Baseball ($2,000).

Residents also voted to continue to exempt the Pownal Rescue Squad and volunteer fire departments' buildings from property taxes.
