BENNINGTON >> Incumbent Chairman Thomas Jacobs won reelection to the Bennington Select Board. Jeanne Conner and Jeannie Jenkins, who ran a joint campaign, also won.

Jacobs received 1,704 votes. Conner and Jenkins had 1,586 and 1,650 respectively. They defeated four others, Mike Bethel with 796 votes, Jason Bushee with 510 votes, Michael McDonough with 1,048 votes and Don Miller with 1,234 votes.

The municipal budget of $12,020,560 passed with 2,535 "yes" votes to 850 "no" votes.

All ballot articles passed.

Bennington Town Clerk Cassandra Barbeau said this year's turnout was high at around 3,700. There are about 8,400 registered voters.

Jacobs was elected to the board in 2013. He was appointed chairman in 2015.

"Was I nervous? I'm always nervous. Watching the people come in you could sort of get a feeling," he said.

The large voter turnout was attributed by many to the Republican and Democrat primaries

"The turnout was amazing," Jacobs said. "We had a real cross-section of ages and individuals. You wonder, are they coming because of the primary or is this an after thought? I think some people did, but with the numbers it looked like people were voting in both for the most part."

He said he is looking forward to the coming year

"It will be interesting to see what we can do," he said.

Jenkins and Conner said that since this was their first time running for the board, it's not clear how much running as a team helped.

"I'm very happy," said Jenkins. "We were out there since 7 o'clock this morning. It was great so many people came out to vote, and they were happy, people were really happy to be voting today."

Conner, Jenkins, and Jacobs were at the Bennington Fire Facility Tuesday night when results were announced.

"I feel really good, I'm really glad," said Conner. "It was a lot of work but it paid off. We did a good job."
