BENNINGTON - Police arrested five people, four of them Bennington residents, Friday morning on drug charges while executing a search warrant at 715 Main St. that netted 100 small bags of heroin, cash, and prescription medication.
Bennington Police arrested Lucretia Thomas, 33, Michael Thomas, 53, Tina Walsh, 53, and Mary Smith, 27, and Frank Chinnici, 26. All are from Bennington, except Chinnici, who is from Brooklyn, N.Y.
All but Walsh were taken into custody and transported to the Bennington Police Department. They were then taken to the Rutland jail. Arrangements were made for Walsh to turn herself in later on Friday.
Police said charges include felony heroin possession, and misdemeanor counts of possessing regulated drugs. The warrant came as a result of police investigating allegations of drugs being sold from the residence.
Smith and Lucretia Thomas are both on probation for drug convictions, police said. Both had been convicted of charges stemming from Operation County Strike, a massive drug sweep conducted by multiple police agencies in January of last year that resulted in the arrests of over 40 people.
Police did not say how much money was found, or the amount of prescription medications, only that they were Percocet and Codeine tablets. Both are classified as opiates.
"The Bennington Police Department credits members of the Bennington community for coming forward and providing information about illicit drug activity," wrote Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette in a release. "We ask residents to remain vigilant and to continue providing information about any type of illegal activity they witness or have knowledge of."
