BENNINGTON - State Police have identified the Bennington Police officer who shot a knife-wielding man in the lobby of the Bennington Police Department Tuesday night.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. Gregory Filo, 42, of Safford Street entered the lobby of the Bennington Police Department. Dispatchers saw that he had a knife, and thought he had stabbed a man who came in after him. Police entered the lobby and ordered Filo to drop the knife. According to police, he did not comply and came towards them while brandishing the weapon. He was shot once in the abdomen by Patrol Sgt. Michael Plusch.
Plusch is on paid administrative leave per department protocol. He was hired by the department in November 1999 and became shift supervisor in December 2010. The night of the shooting he was the regularly assigned shift supervisor.
