BENNINGTON -- Seven local high school students participated in this year's iteration of Bennington Rotary Club's Four-Way Test Speech Contest, with the winner, Autumn Hausthor, a high-school senior, taking home an iPad.
Students were asked to write and deliver a speech based on how the Four-Way Test, which, according to the Bennington Rotary Club's website, was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor, has affected their lives. The test says, of the things we think, say, or do, to ask ourselves, "1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? and 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
Second-place winner Shelby Hanynes, a high-school sophomore, received a netbook, and third-place winner Jacob Normyle, a high-school senior, received $100.
The Rotary Club holds the contest every year.
