WINHALL -- A fire caused mostly smoke and heat damage to the Winhall town garage and the vehicles inside Monday night. The two-alarm fire was first noticed when next door neighbors reported seeing smoke, according to Winhall Fire Chief Howard Coleman.

Coleman said after the fire department got to the scene, the blaze was quickly controlled. The fire seemed to started on one side of the building near a truck parked in the garage. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

"[The building] being all metal, it controlled the fire," Coleman said. "When we came in and opened the doors, it [the fire] didn't blast out like it sometimes does in a house fire."

There were two trucks and two graders parked in the garage when it caught on fire. Two of the trucks were operational, Coleman said, and the other two may just need some maintenance.
