ARLINGTON - State police responded to a reported burglary at Chem Clean Furniture Restoration at 4095 Route 7A, Arlington, at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Friday. When the troopers arrived, the owner of the store was already there. The owner told police that someone had forced the main door of the business open, and had attempted, unsuccessfully, to remove a safe from the building. Police found a pair of footprints and a set of tire tracks at the scene. The suspects did cause significant damage to the door, which is estimated at $200. Police are encouraging anyone with information on the incident to contact Vermont State Police at 802-442-5421, or submit a tip anonymously at VTTips.info. ARLINGTON - Just after 6 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 7A in Arlington near Lost Lake Road. Tammy Mattison, 42, of Arlington, lost control of her 2012 Chevrolet Sonic and slid off the northbound lane of Route 7A, overturning onto a set of railroad tracks. Airbags on both sides of the car deployed during the crash, which severely damaged the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The front driver and passenger side windows were both broken in the crash. Mattison did not report any injuries. The Arlington Fire Department and Arlington Rescue Squad provided on-scene assistance.

SHAFTSBURY - Vermont state police responded on Saturday to a two-vehicle crash in Shaftsbury near the New York state line.
SANDGATE - A man who allegedly ran off the road and destroyed about 15 feet of fence in Sandgate on Wednesday turned himself in to State Police in Shaftsbury on Saturday after seeing a press release regarding the incident. Joshua Bushee, 32 of Arlington, was driving a white pickup truck on West Sandgate Road when he went off the road onto property owned by Adrienne Kimball, 53. Kimball saw the accident take place and advised the police of the description of Bushee’s truck. Bushee did not believe anyone was home, and told police he had intended to return the next day to talk to the homeowner. Bushee was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and will appear at Bennington Court, Criminal Division on Feb. 10.
Sunday Jan. 5
ARLINGTON - At approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday, State Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Chocolate Barn on Route 7A in Arlington. The incident was reported by an off duty Manchester police officer. When police arrived on the scene they discovered Branden James, 27, of Arlington, sleeping in the vehicle, which was running, with the driver’s side door opened and one leg hanging out. Police checked on the welfare of James, who denied medical attention. Police believed James showed signs of alcohol impairment and took him into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after he was put through standard field sobriety tests. James was cited and released, and is scheduled to appear on court on Jan. 13.
DORSET - Police responded to a single vehicle rollover on at the intersection of Route 7 and Route 7A in Dorset at 9:08 a.m. Sunday. Zachary Autio, 26, of Troy, N.Y. was travelling northbound on Route 7 at what police describe as excessive speeds for the snow-covered roads. Autio lost control of his 2009 Toyota Matrix and skidded off the northbound shoulder and overturned. No serious injuries were reported, though the vehicle sustained heavy damage to the entire passenger side, roof, and windshield. Traffic was reduced to a single lane for about an hour as the accident was cleared. The Dorset Fire Department and Manchester Rescue Squad assisted with the crash. Autio was issued a traffic ticket for operating too fast for present road conditions.
