Charged with larceny and embezzlement

SHAFTSBURY - Tangalee Thomas, 30, of Bennington was arrested and charged with larceny and embezzlement from her former employer, Paulin’s Inc., located at 1250 Route 7A in Shaftsbury. According to the state police’s press release, it had been discovered that Thomas had allegedly stolen cash from the business while working. She will appear in Bennington District Court on Jan. 6 to face the charges.

Crash in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY - At 10:18 a.m., state police from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash in front of 471 Route 67 West in Shaftsbury. The driver, Terry Young Jr., 29, of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., reported that he lost control of his vehicle while traveling eastbound on Route 67 West when he lost control of his 1991 Toyota 4 Runner, sliding sideways off the road. The vehicle flipped over and crashed into several trees before coming to rest on the driver’s side. Young reported that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Young was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for possible injuries.

The vehicle, which was reported as totaled, was removed by All Service Citgo.

Saturday and Sunday Dec. 28-29

Patrols seeking agressive driving

SHAFTSBURY - The Vermont State Police patrolled Route 7 in Shaftsbury, Arlington, and Sunderland on Saturday and Sunday as part of Governor Shumlin’s highway traffic safety campaign. The officers were looking for aggressive driving. On Saturday the officers patrolled from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and on Sunday they patrolled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Between the two days, 31 vehicles, with a total of 77 occupants, were pulled over, resulting in 23 tickets, 7 written warnings, and $5,403 in total fines. During one traffic stop, the officer performed a consented search for drugs, but it is not indicated that an arrest was made.
