BENNINGTON -- The relatives are finally starting to head home, the kids are still on vacation from school, and there are more leftovers in the refrigerator than you know what to do with. You've made it to the one time of year that can be more peaceful than Christmas itself: Post-Christmas.

Up and running

While almost every business in the area took Wednesday off, according to posts on social media, most of them were back up and running at full strength by Thursday. The Bennington Bookshop of 467 Main St. in Bennington will re-open on 9 a.m. on Thursday. Kevin's Sports Pub and Restaurant on 27 Main St., North Bennington will reopen at 11 a.m. Ramunto's Pizza, at 519 Main St., Bennington, will open at 11 a.m., though they noted that there will be no Thursday trivia this week.

Some businesses will take a little extra time off. Bennington Center for the Arts, of 44 Gypsy Lane in Bennington, will be closed until Friday Jan. 3. Lil' Britain Fish and Chip Shop will be re-opening at 11:30 a.m. on Friday the 27th.

If you're looking to do some post-holiday shopping, several area stores have promotions running this week. Fiddlehead at Four Corners, of 338 Main St. in Bennington, who will be open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, are offering 10 percent off for anyone who mentions "We read in the Banner that you have discounts" between now and Dec. 31. Massage by Design, of 215 Benmont Ave. is offering buy one $55 massage and get one 50 percent off any time between now and Jan. 1.

For some more long-term help with your New Year's resolutions, Bennington Tennis Center, of 200 Lovers Lane in Bennington, is offering a mid-season special for new members, in which one can purchase a membership lasting from New Year's to the end of April for $100.

If your style is welcoming in the new year with video games, board games, and a Magic the Gathering draft, Gamer's Grotto, of 457 Main St., Bennington, will be hosting their "2013 New Year's Eve All-Night Event" from 9 p.m. on Dec. 31st to 6 a.m. on Jan 1. General admission price for that event is $15. They will have some board games open, but also invite people to bring their own. The Magic draft will be $40 to participate.
