Elks hosts bingo
BENNINGTON -- Every Monday, the Bennington Elks hosts bingo. There will be a $1,000 jackpot and 31 games for $13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m. The Bennington Elks is located at 125 Washington Ave.
Bennington Free Clinic Monday hours
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has added Monday hours, in addition to its Thursday schedule. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St. Call for an appointment, 447-3700. Drop-ins will not be seen.
Bennington Free Clinic and Vermont Health Connect
BENNINGTON -- We will be making appointments for folks wishing to know more about Vermont Health Connect, and to sign up on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Bennington Free Clinic is providing free assistance to individuals, families and small businesses who have questions about the new Vermont insurance system, which was developed as part of the federal Affordable Care Act. A team of ten trained Navigators is available to answer questions and guide consumers through the enrollment process.
Starting on Jan. 1, 2014, all people in Vermont will be required to have health insurance, either through an employer or through the new online insurance marketplace, "Vermont Health Connect." The open enrollment period began on October 1, 2013. Individuals and families will need to sign up for a VHC insurance plan by December 15, for coverage to start on January 1, 2014. There are different sign-up deadlines for small businesses.
Navigators are available by appointment at the following times: Every Monday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon; every Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and the third Monday of each month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Other times may be available upon request. Water Resources Department" Throughout the week, wastewater crews will be cleaning and televising sewer lines throughout town. This work may require one-lane traffic, so please use caution when approaching work sites.
Thursday -- Wastewater crews will be performing a sewer repair on Blackberry Lane. Possible road closure may be necessary.
Water crews will continue their semi-annual flushing of fire hydrants. Use caution when approaching work site.
Highway Department: Monday through Wednesday, Monument Avenue will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Dewey Street and Southshire for the replacement of a culvert. Use alternate routes.
Throughout the week, highway crews will be replacing a storm drainage line on Harrison Avenue. One-lane traffic will be accommodated.
The street sweeper will be picking up leaves and cleaning manholes all week. Use caution.
Note: Do not rake your leaves into town streets and highways. It clogs the drains and presents driving and flooding hazards for the community. The Bennington Transfer Station will accept leaves for no charge. If you bring in bags you must empty the bags of leaves into the leaf and mulch pile. Make sure all loads are covered when taking leaves and/or brush to the transfer station.
