BENNINGTON -- A Shaftsbury man was charged with his DUI, third offense, over the weekend, according to police.
According to the Bennington Police Department, Bradley A. Krause, 30, was the operator of a 2011 Ford F250 that was involved in a single-car accident on Convent Avenue near Anthony Drive.
Cpl. Andy Hunt responded to the scene at approximately 11:29 p.m. Friday evening to find Krause's vehicle had traveled down an embankment and lodged in a mud-filled ditch, police said.
In a statement, the police said Krause had been traveling northbound when his vehicle crossed the southbound lane and ended up in the culvert, where he was found attempting to drive it free without success.
Krause was also charged with criminal refusal to provide an evidentiary breath test. He was judged to be impaired by alcohol and after being taken into custody, was released on conditions, police said.
Police said Krause then refused to sign the conditions and said that he would not appear in court as ordered.
A $5,000 cash or bond bail was placed, and Krause was taken to Marble Valley Correctional Center in lieu of bail. He is scheduled to appear in Bennington District Court today.
There were no injuries. Property damage of the lawn and culvert is yet to be determined, police said.
