BENNINGTON -- A student at Bennington Schools Inc. is accused of biting a school staff member's face.
Shakwona Harrison, 16, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Vermont Superior Court to a felony count of aggravated assault.
She was released under the condition she not contact the alleged victim, Kelsey Richards.
According to an affidavit by Bennington Police Officer Robert Murawski, on Monday at 8:48 p.m. he was dispatched to a property on Route 7 owned by Bennington Schools, a school for youths with social and behavioral challenges, for a reported assault.
Richards said she was trying to calm Harrison down because Harrison was upset that another student had taken her money. Harrison grabbed Richards by the hair and shirt, bit her arm and spit in her face.
When other staff members intervened, Harrison bit Richards in the face leaving a golf-ball sized bruise on her left cheek, according to police.
Harrison admitted to the biting and was arrested.
