BENNINGTON -- A forum on how to purchase health insurance through the Vermont Health Exchange will be held at the Bennington Free Library, 101 Silver St., on Thursday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Coffee and baked goods will be provided.
The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce and the Bennington Free Clinic are hosting the event. The two groups are what the Department of Vermont Health Access calls "navigator" organizations that help the department spread the word to the more than 80,000 Vermonters expected to need the exchange.
Between forums like these and trained navigators, the state hopes everyone required to use the exchange knows about it and how to use it.
Individuals and companies with under 50 employees have to buy plans through the exchange at www.vermonthealthconnect.com. The two companies approved to sell insurance over the exchange are MVP and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The exchange lets consumers compare prices between companies, which offer certain levels of tiered coverage. The exchange is a requirement of the Affordable Care Act.
