State police conduct saturation patrol
POWNAL -- At approximately 9 a.m. Friday, the Vermont State Police conducted a saturation patrol on US RT 7 in Pownal.
During this time, police stopped 16 vehicles, issued 12 tickets totaling $1,768 in fines and wrote five written warnings.
According to police, violations ranged from speeding to unregistered vehicles.
This traffic enforcement detail was part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Holiday Enforcement Campaign.
Police will be continue to conduct numerous saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints throughout the Bennington County Area over this holiday weekend. Local man killed in logging accident
STEPHENTOWN, N.Y. -- Thursday morning, at approximately 10:02 a.m., William J. Morse Jr., 23, of East Arlington was killed during a logging project on Black River Road in Stephentown, when a tree being cut down struck a standing, decomposing tree, which consequently fell on top of Morse.
New York State Police and Stephentown EMS responded to the scene.
However, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and Mr. Morse succumbed to his injuries.
BPD investigating burglary on Main Street
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Police Department is investigating a burglary into an apartment in the 700 block of Main Street in Bennington that occured sometime during this week.
Police say a 23" RCA flat screen television with a built in DVD player, an antique violin, including its case, a small air compressor, and four remote controlled airplanes and helicopters were stolen from the home.
Police are asking anyone with kniowledge of or infromation about the burglary to call the Bennington Police Department at 442-1030.
