Shaftsbury native killed in crash in Montana

SHAFTSBURY -- Kyra Williams, 26, formerly of Shaftsbury and a 2005 MAU graduate, was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 between Galen and Warm Springs, Mont.

Her parents, Chris and Lynne Williams, reside in Shaftsbury.

According to police, Williams died at the scene of the crash at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a vehicle driving in front of her hit a piece of semi tire on the road, sending it flying into her 2009 Honda Fit.

Williams’ vehicle was consequently hit by a 2013 Chevy sport utility vehicle. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact.

The collision injured the SUV passengers, a 37-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both from Germany.

Theft of tires reported in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY -- At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Vermont State Police responded to Maple Hill Road within the Town of Shaftsbury for a reported tire theft.

It was determined that sometime between Thursday and Sunday, four new General Grabber A/T2 255-60-R16 tires, belonging to Chad Swartz, 22, of Shaftsbury had been stolen from his garage.

According to police, the tires are worth approximately $700. Anyone with information regarding the burglary is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at Shaftsbury Barracks.

Police: underage drinking party broken up

STAMFORD -- At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Vermont State Police responded to the area of County Road in Stamford for a reported underage drinking party.

Upon arrival, Troopers encountered several juveniles that tested positive for consumption of alcohol.

The party was broken up and the remaining juveniles then dispersed from the area, according to police.
