BENNINGTON -- A Pleasant Street woman is accused of strangling her girlfriend during an argument.
Ann Spiezio, 39, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Bennington Superior Court Criminal Division to aggravated domestic assault. She was released on conditions she not have any contact with the complaining witness, however she can collect her things from the apartment they shared if in the presence of a law enforcement officer.
According to an affidavit by Bennington Police Officer David Faden, on Saturday at 5:26 p.m. he was dispatched to an apartment on Pleasant Street for a reported domestic assault. He spoke to Spiezio who said she was on a cell phone speaking to a friend while her girlfriend followed her around the apartment. She said she went into the bathroom and her girlfriend tried to force her way in, so Spiezio tried to go to the kitchen but was blocked by her girlfriend. She said she pushed the woman out of the way and she fell although it appeared to be a staged fall. She then began to cry and said she would call police.
The woman told police she and Spiezio were in an argument over the stove being on as well as a fan. She said Spiezio strangled her then a short while later shoved her down.
Police said while being processed, Spiezio was found to have a stove knob in her pocket.
