BENNINGTON -- Police said a man created a traffic hazard in order to summon police so they would respond to his complaint of a stolen cell phone.
According to Bennington Police Corporal Andy Hunt, on Sunday at 9:04 p.m. police received calls saying a man was walking in the middle of the road around Main Street and North Street while yelling at passing vehicles. Police learned it was Bennington resident Tracy Eastman when they arrived. He had been at the police department shortly before to complain of a stolen cell phone but no officer was available to speak with him at that time because they had been dispatched to more pressing incidents.
Eastman told police he knew what he did would draw their attention so he could make his complaint. He said he had smoked crack cocaine earlier in the evening and his judgment had suffered because of that.
Eastman was cited to appear in Bennington Superior Court Criminal Division on June 3.
