BENNINGTON -- A former employee of the Bennington Eagles Club has been accused of passing bad checks totaling $810 to the club.

Jasmine L. Millette, 25, of Bennington, pleaded not guilty to nine misdemeanor counts of false pretenses or false tokens. She was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and was ordered not to go to the Eagles Club on North Street.

According to an affidavit by Bennington Police Detective David S. Rowland, in late 2011 he was contacted by William Brusso, who represented the Eagles Club, and who said a past employee of the clubs had passed about 10 checks to the club which were returned for lack of sufficient funds.

Rowland said he called the former employee, Millette, who said the checks bouncing had been a mistake and she would be paying the Eagles the money owed beginning with $300. Rowland said he informed Brusso of this, but later learned Millette had not set the matter right and that the governing body of the club wished for criminal charges.

Rowland said he subpoenaed bank records and got a list of nine checks written between March 15, 2011, and Dec. 6, 2011, with amounts between $80 and $180. Rowland said over the summer he was able to speak to Millette on the phone a number of times but was not able to make contact with her.
