HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Hospital representatives in Albany confirmed Wednesday that a Hoosick man involved in a standoff with authorities earlier this week has died.

Police said they discovered Keith F. Gates, 44, with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening after the day-long incident. Police initially made entry into the home with robotic surveillance equipment. In a written release late Monday, state police said the standoff originated after police were called to the home for a report of a domestic dispute.

Upon the arrival of officers, police said Gates made threats toward himself and police and refused to exit the residence. Authorities said he fired "several rounds from a long gun out of the rear of the residence."

The incident caused through traffic on Route 22 to be re-routed around the scene in North Hoosick for most of the day. Gates was found in an upstairs bedroom with a self-inflicted injury to his head and was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he died the following day.
